Design and implementation of workshops with MATER ecoactive museum. These workshops, aimed at raising awareness about ocean plastic pollution through hands-on action, were conducted for schools and the general public on a refurbished traditional ship in Pasai San Pedro, Basque Country. The program consisted of a series of cooperative activities, beginning with sailing on the ship and collecting plastic waste from the sea. Participants then cleaned and transformed the collected garbage to create both an art installation and useful objects, such as earrings, to take home.
The collected plastic was carefully cleaned and creatively arranged on canvases, which were later heat-pressed using an on-board machine. Finally, the material was cut into drop-shaped accessories and incorporated into the art installation.
These activities allowed participants to understand the context and complexities of ocean plastic pollution firsthand. From the collection of waste to the creation of new, functional objects, participants experienced the full lifecycle of transformation. What was once considered garbage is no longer waste, but a valuable new resource.
